Tennessee Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph filled in for Will Levis for the rest of their game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday. Lewis suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder after extending and diving for a first down in the first quarter, never to return to the game.
Rudolph completed nine of 17 attempts for 85 yards, helping the Titans defeat the Dolphins 31-12. However, his performance wasn’t the talk of the town that night. Instead, it was the alleged message he sent to social media personality Amanda Vance in the second half.
Vance and her boyfriend Joey Mauriello were in attendance, cheering for the Dolphins. The couple claimed that they received a message from Rudolph, posting it on the Instagram account of Betr, the online gaming platform they are endorsing.
The quarterback guested on Tuesday’s episode of “The Doug Gottlieb Show,” denying that he sent a message to the couple during the game.
“No, it was a response and it was about eight months ago. It was definitely not in between second down going to third down, that’s for sure,” Mason Rudolph said. “But a good frame job. A good frame job for a little 15 seconds of fame I guess.”
The Titans’ win over the Dolphins marks their first so far this season. Rudolph further commented on their last Monday’s win.
“I didn’t do a whole lot, that’s for sure. Tony (Pollard) and the O-line and Tyjae (Spears) just mauled them up front. Moved the ball, controlled the ball in the second half. We protected the ball there in the second half and got out with the win,” he said.
Mason Rudolph stays QB2 behind Will Levis on bye week
Next week is a bye week for the Tennessee Titans, and that might not mean something good for Mason Rudolph. Will Lewis will be able to take the whole week to rest up and get his injured shoulder healed in time so he can start in their Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
After their victory against the Dolphins, coach Brian Callahan talked about Levis’ status. “Will’s healthy, he’s our quarterback. He’s our starter when he’s healthy and we’re ready to roll with him,” he said.
The next day, after an MRI scan confirmed that Levis didn’t suffer any serious injury, Coach Callahan reconfirmed his stance about starting with thim. “There’s no controversy, no second guessing.”
He then said that he hopes for a better performance from the quarterback after their first three losses.
“It’s hard to play starting quarterback in the NFL as everybody knows,” Callahan said. “(It) does take some development. Guys make young player mistakes. You see it all across the league right now, and we’re going to find out everything about Will that we can.”
The Tennessee Titans will return to the field on October 13. Mason Rudolph’s status for that game remains to be seen.
