The 4-6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the 2-8 New York Giants at MetLife Stadium for their 11th regular season game. For Sunday’s matchup, the Buccaneers hope to add to the win column after losing four straight and one step closer to the wide-open NFC South division.
The Buccaneers’ offensive line will be tested against the Giants’ elite defensive front, which ranks second in sacks. Their elite offensive lineman is injured, further complicating things.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers elite LT suffered an injury a few weeks ago
Tristan Wirfs exited the second quarter of their Week 10 loss against the San Francisco 49ers with a knee injury and did not return for the remainder of the game. Although Wirfs avoided a catastrophic injury, he suffered a low-grade MCL Sprain, which could cause the elite left tackle to miss a week or so, even though they had a BYE last week.
What is the LT’s game status for Week 12?
Tristan Wirfs participated in this week’s practice as a limited participant and the team initially listed him as questionable on Friday’s final injury report. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers downgraded him from questionable to doubtful on Saturday, indicating he wouldn’t play. The Buccaneers officially released their inactive list for today’s game and ruled Wirfs out.

Who starts at LT?
Buccaneers’ swing tackle Justin Skule will start at left tackle. Skule, who replaced Wirfs against the San Francisco 49ers, will start his fifth game of the 2024 season and the first as Baker Mayfield’s blindside protector against the New York Giants and their elite EDGE rushers. Will he contain the Giants pass rush and give Mayfield plenty of time to throw?
