Baker Mayfield is doing all he can to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a fighting chance this season. Turns out, he did the same for a Florida High School football team in their time of great need.
In a thrilling showdown, Mayfield led the Buccaneers to a narrow 20-16 victory over the Detroit Lions, improving the Bucs’ record to 2-0 for the season. Mayfield’s pivotal moment came in the third quarter when he executed an 11-yard rushing touchdown, capping off a six-play, 70-yard drive that put Tampa Bay ahead by four points.

Mayfield displayed impressive efficiency throughout the game, completing 12 of 19 passes for 185 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown connection with Chris Godwin. Godwin was a standout performer, hauling in seven receptions for 117 yards. Despite facing pressure, Mayfield also contributed on the ground, leading the team with 34 rushing yards.
The Lions, coming off a playoff victory over the Buccaneers earlier in the year, fought back with Jared Goff completing 34 of 55 passes for 307 yards, but he struggled with two critical interceptions. Amon-Ra St. Brown shone for Detroit, making 11 catches for 119 yards, while Jameson Williams added five receptions for 79 yards.
The game shifted momentum as the Buccaneers’ defense held strong against the Lions’ late-game efforts. With this win, the Buccaneers not only avenged their previous playoff loss but also demonstrated their resilience early in the season. The Lions, now at 1-1, will need to regroup as they seek to bounce back in the coming weeks.

Apart from leading Tampa Bay on the field, Mayfield is also out there doing what he can to help young football players have a better situation. This can be seen in a post Baker and Emily Mayfield Foundation posted on their official X account.
