Stephen A. Smith isn’t buying the take that the loss on Sunday was all on Justin Fields. While the third-year quarterback looked bad against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the rest of the team didn’t have performances to write home about. The First Take host went off on the Bears’ organization on Monday morning.

Stephen A. Smith On Justin Fields

Smith saw what so many people saw on Sunday. Fields simply hasn’t been developed. The raw skills are there but he hasn’t improved from last year.

“I’mma tell you what I see in Justin Fields. I see somebody that’s not being developed. I see somebody that’s not growing, and more importantly, I see apathy kicking in, if not despondency. He knows what kind of situation he’s in. He doesn’t want to be there, and I don’t blame him one bit.”

“It is a bad, bad situation from the top on down. He has no help whatsoever.”

Fields is starting to look like he doesn’t want to be there anymore according the Smith. For a year that started with so much promise, it has gone downhill fast.

Where Do The Bears Go From Here?

If there is a silver lining it is this. The quarterback class is very deep this year. The Bears own their own first-round pick as well as the Carolina Panthers pick. There is a chance that they can get two quality rookies to build around in 2024. The issue with this is that Ryan Poles is going to have to put a team around those players. Chicago spent a ton in free agency and it doesn’t seem to have helped at all. The Bears are in a tough spot but hopefully, if this season goes awry they can recover thanks to their draft capital.

Stephen A. Smith isn’t blaming Justin Fields. Frankly, everyone on that team needs to be better. They have a 0-2 hole to dig themselves out of. They go into week 3 with another tough matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
