Steelers’ Justin Fields Releases Statement After Benching (Report)

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-2 through their first six games of the season and are in a dead race with the 4-2 Baltimore Ravens for the top spot in the AFC North.  This off-season saw Pittsburgh acquire both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.  The moves completely revamped their quarterback room and, so far, it has worked.

With Wilson (the presumed number one quarterback) out for the first six games, Fields led the team to a great start.  Now, with Wilson expected to get the start this week, Fields had something to say.

As Russell Wilson is now fully fit, he is now likely to get the starting job. It doesn’t appear Fields has yet convinced head coach Mike Tomlin he is QB1 worthy despite his performances this year.

This Thursday, Fields acknowledged that he hadn’t played well enough to cement his status as the team’s undisputed starter:

“I don’t think I played good enough if I’m being real with you,” he claimed. “If I’m being real with myself, if I did play well enough, I don’t think there would be any sort of (question) who should be playing who should not.”
