The Ohio State Buckeyes will have the best wide receiver in the country next season in Jeremiah Smith. Smith was only a freshman last season.

During his freshman season, he caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 17.3 yards per reception. Smith is 6’3″ and weighs 215 lbs. It is going to be interesting to see what kind of numbers he will put up during his sophomore season. Can Smith win the Heisman Trophy next season for the Buckeyes?
CBS Sports Has Ohio State Buckeyes Wide Receiver Jeremiah Smith Winning the Heisman Trophy In 2025

The 2025 college football season is still over three months away, but it is never too early to predict who could potentially win the Heisman Trophy next season. Travis Hunter, a cornerback/wide receiver for the Colorado Buffaloes, won the Heisman Trophy in 2024 over Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty.
Is there a chance that a wide receiver can win the award for the second straight season? Well, Will Backus of CBS Sports thinks that the Buckeyes star wide receiver will win the Heisman Trophy during the 2025 college football season. Backus said,
“Smith’s already the best player in college football and he’s only been in the sport for just over a full year. Though the Heisman rarely goes to a wide receiver, Smith has the aura, media recognition and talent befitting college football’s top award. It’s not hard to see him collecting at least 1,500 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns for the Buckeyes in 2025, especially with fellow top option Emeka Egbuka off to the NFL.
And it’s not like defenses can key in on Smith alone; Ohio State’s wide receiver room is packed to the gills with talent. He’s an unstoppable force and — so long as he meets expectations — he’ll be in New York by year’s end. Smith is the smartest bet to win the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards, as well. A +1400 bet to win the award according to FanDuel Sportsbook, Smith is behind three quarterbacks in Texas‘ Arch Manning (+700), LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (+900) and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik (+900). That adds even more value to an already smart preseason bet. “
Smith will no doubt be one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025. The last time a Buckeyes player won the Heisman Trophy was Troy Smith during the 2006 college football season. Ohio State’s offense will be catered around Smith for the next couple of years and it will not matter who will be the quarterback for the Buckeyes.
The Heisman Trophy case may very well be underway during the Week 1 battle between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State. Arch Manning, the quarterback for the Longhorns, will be one of the most talked about players to potentially win the award as well next college football season.
Smith is going to be the number one wide receiver in the Buckeyes offense. There is also a chance that he could be putting 100 yards of offense every single week. It will not matter if Carnell Tate or other wide receivers step up for Ohio State on the roster, Smith is the player that everyone will be talking about during the 2025 college football season.
