Shedeur Sanders took the field for the first time this week with the Cleveland Browns. Rookies reported to camp across the league to start getting used to the NFL. While Sanders will get his opportunities to start, it won’t come without competition.
Today, his head coach refused to give any further explanation.
“We Don’t Pay Too Much Attention” Shedeur Sanders Gets Brutal Update From Head Coach

As the team kicked off its rookie minicamp on Friday, head coach Kevin Stefanski curiously avoided a question about Shedeur Sanders:
The Browns surprisingly selected both Sanders and Dillon Gabriel in the NFL draft, taking the latter 94th overall before doubling back with a trade to take Sanders off the board at No. 144.
Gabriel got the lion’s share of the reps in practice on Friday, prompting some questions from reporters when Stefanski faced them for a media session after the day’s work.
The head coach insisted that there was nothing to look at as the team doesn’t pay attention to who goes first.

“Yeah I wouldn’t look into it as anything…” Stefanski said, per Browns reporter Brad Stainbrook. “I think you’ll see the whole weekend, going through the spring. We don’t pay too much attention to who is going first.”
The Browns were already under fire following what some fans perceived as disrespect after they assigned the No. 2 jersey to another player while giving him the No. 12.
Still, if Sanders is the player he believes he is, he should have no trouble getting the starting job, given the other names in the Browns QB room, with Deshaun Watson still sidelined.
Should he miss out on the starting job, he might not have that many options around the league. But there’s also the fact that the team took Gabriel a lot higher than they did Shedeur and will treat him like a priority piece unless, of course, the former Colorado star changes their mind.
If nothing else, Cleveland will have the most interesting quarterback corps heading into next season and command plenty of attention throughout 2025.
Shedeur’s got his work cut out for him.

Here is how Sanders performed during his two seasons at Colorado:
