Shedeur Sanders is going to be one of the most followed rookies in 2025 no matter where he plays football. His entrance into the NFL made headlines across the league. Being drafted by Cleveland means Shedeur was facing a five-man qb competition. Many analysts feel as though the 23-year-old proved himself more than once. This was highlighted by his performance against the Carolina Panthers in the pre-season.
Now he’s received some big news about his 2025 season.
“Odd But True” Shedeur Sanders Receives Massive News About His Future With The Browns

It looks like Sanders will be staying with the Cleveland Browns for the foreseeable future:
The rookie quarterback out of Colorado is fighting for a roster spot. The Browns – along with the rest of the NFL – have until Tuesday, Augsut 26 to get down to 53 players. Cleveland has been playing four quarterbacks this preseason – Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Huntley – while a fifth, Kenny Pickett, has been dealing with an injury.
The team has already named Flacco its starting quarterback, with Kevin Stefanski announcing the news at a press conference last week, but the rest of the quarterback spots have been up for grabs.
On Sunday, August 24, Sanders landed some good news about his future with the Browns.
The Browns cut a quarterback on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t Shedeur Sanders. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Browns are cutting ties with former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley.

“Browns are releasing quarterback Tyler Huntley, per source. Cleveland has been planning to keep its other four QBs — Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders — on its 53-man roster,” Schefter reported.
“Odd but true: Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley was the only quarterback on the Browns this summer who has been voted to a Pro Bowl. He now is being released.”
The Browns releasing Huntley is good news for Shedeur Sanders. The rookie quarterback out of Colorado appears to be in line to be one of the four quarterbacks kept on the Cleveland roster. Throughout the summer, reports have indicated that the AFC North franchise was planning on keeping four quarterbacks.
Now, the Browns appear to have essentially finalized that decision. Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders and Pickett are the four quarterbacks left on the roster.
While Sanders appears to be in line to land a spot on the Cleveland roster for 2025, he still has plenty of work to do. Sanders struggled on the field during the Browns’ final preseason game, a 19-17 win over the Rams. He completed just 3 of 6 passes for 14 yards.
Longtime Cleveland Browns reporter Jason Lloyd, who covers the team for The Athletic, wrote: “We are witnessing why 31 teams passed on Shedeur multiple times. The conspiracy theories/sabotage stuff is absurd. He just isn’t good enough yet and isn’t ready to be a starting QB. Teams saw that early and wanted no part of this nonsense. It’s not anymore complicated than that.”
