Shedeur Sanders, former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, was recently dismissed by Jeff Legwold, ESPN analyst, as a top pick in the upcoming draft. Sanders is pretty much hailed as a top prospect in the 2025 NFL draft by numerous NFL scouts and analysts. But Legwold seems to be going the other way.
Sanders split his college football time between the Jackson State Tigers and the Colorado Buffaloes, following his father Deion Sanders, a.k.a Coach Prime, in his various coaching gigs. In his senior year with the Buffaloes, the young quarterback won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year title, after throwing for 4,134 yards, scoring 37 touchdowns and managing ten interceptions for the team.
“When he sets his feet in a clean pocket, Sanders shows the best mechanics and accuracy of any quarterback in this draft. His 71.8% completion rate in two seasons at Colorado is an FBS career record. But he is undersized and doesn’t throw the ball quickly, which partially explains why he took an FBS-leading 94 sacks the past two seasons.” Jeff Legwold wrote about Shedeur Sanders in his article.
Jeff Legwold also ranked Shedeur Sanders no. 32 in his top 100 prospects for the 2025 NFL draft. Legwold’s comments do have some truth in them, as echoed by several NFL scouts. Scouts and analysts have criticized Sanders’ throwing ability, while also accusing the quarterback of having an arrogant attitude.

Shedeur Sanders Puts Out Positive Tweet Amid Criticism
On the other side, Shedeur Sanders still seems optimistic about his future in the NFL and recently posted a tweet mirroring his mental state. Sanders is in the middle of a few rough months, where his personal life, attitude, personality and stats have been ripped apart by NFL scouts and analysts everywhere.
“Failure is not an option” Shedeur Sanders tweeted from his X account.

As per recent reports, the whole scrutiny clouding Shedeur Sanders’ prospects in the NFL are simply because of his father Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders is known to be a ruthless coach who wants nothing but the best for his youngest son. Several NFL analysts have also called out Coach Prime for calling the shots for Shedeur Sanders and using his influence for his NFL career.

In fact, Deion Sanders was also touted to have influenced Colorado University’s decision to retire his son’s jersey, along with that of Travis Hunter. While Sanders’ name is expected to show up in the second round of the NFL draft, Travis Hunter is definitely a first according to the latest rumors.
