Shedeur Sanders remains a hot topic in the football realm, largely because of his surprising slide in the recently concluded 2025 NFL draft.
Widely expected to be one of the first names to be called in the draft, the former Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback and son of ex-NFL superstar Deion Sanders waited until the fifth round to be selected, landing with the Cleveland Browns as the 144th overall selection.
It was a humbling experience for the young signal-caller, who saw other quarterbacks like Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel get drafted before him, which not a lot of people thought was going to happen.
Carter comments on Shedeur Sanders NFL draft controversy

While others believe that there must have been a collusion for Sanders to fall that low in the draft, former NFL star wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter isn’t subscribing to the same notion.
“You’re going for a job interview,” Carter said in a recent episode of Fully Loaded (h/t USA TODAY). “So for his job interview, he was so concerned about what his outfit was, his necklace was over a hundred grand. Like, he hadn’t even convinced people that you’re the face of our franchise. Matter of fact, he had convinced people that they were better off going in a different direction even with people who had lesser talent. That’s the rub he put onto people.”
Carter praised Sanders for his football talents but also commented about the QB’s shortcomings.
“He doesn’t have a big time arm,” added Carter. “He’s not a big guy. He’s not overly athletic. So his measurables are not say first-round measurables, but he played football like a first-rounder.”
