The Seattle Seahawks are headed into the 2024 NFL season with a new era of football beginning.

Gone are the days of Pete Carroll leading the way. Now, Mike Macdonald is in charge and is hoping to lead the Seahawks back to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

While there are so many new things in Seattle, there are a lot of the same pieces. Geno Smith is back as the team’s starting quarterback, despite many fans wanting the team to upgrade the position this offseason. He’s looking to put together a big-time season and prove that he’s still worthy of the starting job.

Even though some fans don’t love Smith, the Seahawks seem very comfortable with him.

Macdonald spoke out about his veteran quarterback and did not hold back when sharing his opinion.

“I think when things start to happen, he needs to be the voice of poise in the room – and he’s doing that. He’s the tip of the spear on our operation, and just to understand when to step on the gas and when not to.”

Smith is coming off of a solid 2023 campaign with the Seattle Seahawks.

He completed 64.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Those numbers show that Smith is still more than capable of putting up big production.

At 33 years old, Smith is playing the final stage of his NFL career. He’s looking to finish his career strong. A big 2024 season could help keep him in a position to be a starter for another couple of years.

Sam Howell was acquired this offseason to be Smith’s backup. There are some who think that the young quarterback could push Smith for playing time.

With the extra motivation of position competition, Smith should thrive and find a way to come through with a strong year for the Seattle Seahawks.
