The Seattle Seahawks’ Former 4th-Round Pick Is Still Part of the Competition for a Starting Spot on the Offensive Line

The Seattle Seahawks’ interior offensive line struggled last season. Their primary starters were LG Damien Lewis, C Evan Brown, and RG Phil Haynes. All three departed in free agency, as Lewis signed with the Carolina Panthers, Brown signed with the Arizona Cardinals, and Haynes remains unsigned.

The Seahawks plan on replacing Lewis with Laken Tomlinson and Brown with Olu Oluwatimi but haven’t figured out Haynes’ replacement.

One player who saw significant playing time in 2023 is back for another season.

Anthony Bradford, the 4th-round pick from 2023, is back for another season. He opened his rookie season as the backup to Haynes, but injuries to Haynes allowed Bradford to start ten games at RG. Unfortunately, he struggled, allowing 28 pressures, 22 hurries, five hits, and one sack, and had a 51.7 PFF grade.

Despite drafting Christian Haynes in the 3rd round, Bradford is still a part of the competition.

Despite suffering an ankle injury during OTAs and missing all but the final days of mandatory minicamp, Bradford is still in the competition for the starting RG position.

Brady Henderson of ESPN confirmed that their head coach views him as “right in the mix.”

Macdonald said Bradford is “right in the mix” to start at RG. I didn’t see him do any team drills today (no surprise given it was his first day back). So it was still McClendon Curtis with the first-team OL at RG and rookie Christian Haynes with the second group.

One player has emerged as an underdog to start at right guard.

McClendon Curtis emerged as an underdog to start at RG. Curtis is on his second team and second year in the league. He spent most of his rookie season inactive and on the bench. He appeared in one game and logged only four special teams snaps.

Curtis filled in for Bradford and saw first-team reps throughout camp.

Expect the competition to heat up during training camp. Who wins the starting job when they put the pads on?
