Last weekend, the San Francisco 49ers organization, their fans, and the NFL community held their collective breaths with reports surfacing of rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall being the victim of a robbery and attempted murder. On Saturday, Pearsall became a shooting victim during a daylight armed robbery attempt in an upscale shopping district in downtown San Francisco. After just one night in the hospital, Pearsall returned home and has since continued team activities with the 49ers.
On Wednesday, the perpetrator of the shooting, a 17-year-old high school senior, was arraigned in juvenile court. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins remains split on charging the individual as a juvenile or an adult. The shooter offered his apologies in court, but many fans did not consider the showing sincere.
San Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall Shooter Arraigned in Court
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:
A 17-year-old high school senior charged with attempted murder in the daytime weekend shooting of 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was arraigned in juvenile court Wednesday and said through his attorney that he was sorry for what happened.
Deputy Public Defender Bob Dunlap, the representative for the teenager charged with the shooting of San Francisco 49ers rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall, told reports that his client is “genuinely very sorry.” The altercation occurred after the teen attempted to rob Pearsall of his Rolex watch. Pearsall was en route to an autograph signing event. Both Pearsall and the teen were shot in the struggle.
The 49ers drafted Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. As a senior with the Florida Gators last season, the Arizona native caught 65 passes for 985 yards and four touchdowns. The emotions of NFL fans shifted from sadness to anger following the arraignment on Wednesday, most notably with the teen apologizing:
Sure he’s sorry…that’s what everybody says

Tried to jack Ricky’s rolex and shot him when a struggle started. But he’s “very sorry” at least.
Try this scumbag as an adult and put him in prison.

— JaxNole.Algo (@JaxNole_algo) September 4, 2024
He’s sorry everyone. Almost killed someone over a watch but he’s sorry. Funny enough, that’s probably enough for him to avoid getting tried as an adult

I’m s to late for being sorry. U should of never tried to rob anyone. The only reason your saying sorry so u would get sympathy in court. Martha
