The whole NFL world couldn’t help but feel bad for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw after he sustained a devastating Achilles injury in Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Greenlaw has since been ruled out for the contest as a result.

Greenlaw suffered the injury in the second quarter when he was trying to run onto the field after a play. It was a non-contact injury and Greenlaw was simply just taking a step before he fell down and started clutching his left leg in pain.

It was clear something snapped, and after he was brought to the blue medical tent to get checked, he was eventually ruled out for the game. The 49ers said that Greenlaw suffered an apparent Achilles tendon injury, though the severity has yet to be revealed.

The Super Bowl aside, Greenlaw’s immediate future is now in doubt. Depending on the severity of the injury, he could ending up missing a number of games in 2024 as well.

After seeing Dre Greenlaw get injured in the most important game of his career, fans and media personalities alike couldn’t help but feel sad for him.

Former NFL star JJ Watt highlighted how much it sucks to see a player who worked all year long to make the Super Bowl get denied of a chance to help his team win.

“Dre Greenlaw hurt his knee jogging onto the field between series. Just brutal brutal luck,” Watt wrote.

“This is brutal: 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw suffered a non-contact injury running onto the field… he’s being carted off now. Just horrible, especially in the Super Bowl,” JPA Football added.

“I’m sick for Dre Greenlaw. The man got hurt running on the field, something this defense has done since the Robert Saleh days. This is a HUGE loss to the 49ers, Greenlaw is the teams muscle and enforcer!” former NFL LB Emmanuel Acho added.

Hopefully Greenlaw’s injury is not that serious. As for the 49ers, they will have to take care of the Chiefs without their reliable linebacker. With being said, perhaps San Francisco will be more motivated to win Super Bowl 58 for their teammate.
