The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with some massive injury woes but one person who may be out for a while is wide receiver Deebo Samuel. On Monday, San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Deebo Samuel is currently hospitalized due to pneumonia as well as fluid in his lungs and there is no timeline for his return to the field.
That is scary news and hopefully, Deebo Samuel is able to get fully healthy soon. This is going to be a massive loss for the San Francisco 49ers on the field right now as they already lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the remainder of the regular season due to a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.
Deebo Samuel has been struggling this season as he has 20 receptions on 32 targets for 335 yards (16.8 yards per catch) and one touchdown catch while also being used in the running game with 19 carries for 51 yards (2.7 yards per attempt) and a rushing touchdown. With the boatload of injuries for the San Francisco 49ers right now, having Deebo Samuel out is critical for the team going forward.
What should the San Francisco 49ers do going forward?
The window for the San Francisco 49ers to win before paying quarterback Brock Purdy is getting closer to closing. The team also has eight picks in the 2025 NFL draft as they get an additional compensatory third-round selection as well as a seventh-round selection from a pick swap trade for former kicker Zane Gonzalez.
The front office could simply make a move for a wide receiver like DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans to bolster the wide receiver depth right now. Pairing him with rookie Ricky Pearsall or go a cheaper route with a veteran like New York Jets’ Mike Williams. Either way, the San Francisco 49ers can ill-afford to have this be a wasted season after losing in the Super Bowl last year.
