To say the least, the San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 off-season has been eventful. Whether it’s trade talks, holdouts, or injuries to star players, San Francisco likely wants the 2024 regular season to get here without anymore off the field distractions.
That being said, one of their current situations consequently have them as overwhelming favorites to sign a star free agent.
San Francisco 49ers Heavily Linked To Star Free Agent
According to the NFL Scouting Department at Bleacher Report, the 49ers need to sign LT David Bakhtiari now:
Add Now: LT David Bakhtiari
With Trent Williams continuing to hold out of camp, Jaylon Moore is currently the 49ers’ starting left tackle despite only having seven career starts in three seasons.
The team might want to invest in a veteran insurance policy just in case Williams’ holdout leaks into the regular season.
Bakhtiari has been banged up over the last few years, but if his medicals check out, that would give the club a former first-team All-Pro to turn to at left tackle in case of an emergency. Plus, it could help that the San Mateo, CA native is from the area and might be interested in playing for his hometown team.
In November 2020, six weeks before his career altering ACL tear, David Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension. Each of the past two summers, the Green Bay Packers restructured that contract.
It would be interesting to see what type of contract Bakhtiari would agree to given that it would likely be a fraction of what Trent Williams is demanding.
