There was speculation earlier this year that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick could work with Justin Herbert as a member of Jim Harbaugh’s staff after Harbaugh accepted the Los Angeles Chargers head coaching job. Kaepernick wasn’t hired as an assistant, but he was recently spotted with Herbert.
Kaepernick would prefer to rejoin the NFL as a quarterback. Last year, he sent a letter to the New York Jets asking them to try him out on the practice squad following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury. The Jets didn’t take up the offer, and Kaepernick continued his streak of being a free agent.
The San Francisco 49ers connection
Kaepernick and Harbaugh have had a close relationship ever since Harbaugh coached Kaepernick in San Francisco. He organized a workout at Michigan for Kaepernick at the halftime of Michigan’s spring game in 2022. When he was a candidate for the Minnesota Vikings head coaching job, Harbaugh wanted to hire Kaepernick as a member of the staff.
It would have made sense for Kaepernick to join the Chargers as their quarterbacks coach. Instagram, the Chargers hired Herbert’s previous position coach, Shane Day, for the 2024 season.
Kaepernick and Hebert are teammates for another organization–Nike. On Instagram, Nike brand marketer Giovanni Fillari posted photos of Kaepernick hanging out with several NFL athletes for what appeared to be a promotion for “The Ones” collection. Kaepernick was seen with Ja’Marr Chase and Rashid Shaheed.
Colin Kaepernick appeared to be working with Justin Herbert
One photo stands out in particular. Kaepernick is seen talking with Herbert.
According to Forbes, Herbert is sponsored by Nike. Kaepernick has collaborated with Nike several times since his career in the NFL ended due to his political activism.
It doesn’t feel like an accident that Nike dropped a photo of Harbaugh’s current quarterback talking to Harbaugh’s former quarterback. They’re looking to get some shock value out of the Harbaugh connection.
The connection between Hebert and Kaepernick could become authentic. Kaepernick has a passion for teaching and football. Maybe Kaepernick might be more willing to join the Chargers coaching staff in the future to help younger quarterbacks like Herbert.

What a joke! Harbaugh is just being nice to the guy and he waited finagle his way back into the NFL you sue the NFL then you want to work for the NFL just face it. You’re done. You had your chance. You blew it several times. Not only that you can’t change the past, it’s history. It’s done. It’s over, but that’s the case that native Americans should be getting a lot more than what they are
Hey CAPERNIK! Go away, brother. Your ten minutes are waaayyyy up! You phony!
They better not let that fool join the Charger’s staff if they don’t want to alienate a large number of fans!
If it helps justy then why not!!!
I agree. Go Chargers. Bolt up
Colin needs to stay away from all sports in the USA. He blew it, it’s time to move on. He’s like a cancer that won’t go away.
Not a good look. Ten yards to go for a Super Bowl win — just give QB the ball. All downhill from there … read Floyd’s autopsy report — no bruises on neck
What’s he want to teach Justin? How to kneel? How to be a cancer in a locker room? I doubt if there’s much Kap can teach.
Do you remember when Kap was being talked about with his new style of football and people were putting him n the hall of fame as a rookie. ( when he went to the Super Bowl ), which the Chargers have done once in 63 years. Give the gentleman a break. Let him participate. Qb 3, advisor or assistant Qb coach, If Jim Harbaugh , the Spanos family and Justin are good with it, so I’m I. I’m a Chargers fan for life. I just want to win. How do any of you know if he can help or not, he’s been at high levels of football. Most of us live our lives through football and players, while sitting on the sidelines. I met him once for a minute or two. Very polite and accommodating. I wish he was playing so I could cheer him on. Bolt up, good luck chargers and best wishes for you Kap.
We seemingly forget that this country was built on foregiveness and 2nd, 3rd chances. Kap didn’t deserve to be back balled based on his exercising his 1st amendment. We are all entitled to our own to our personal beliefs. If my beliefs aren’t robbing, threatening, harming your existence to move on. If you can forgive President 45 for his iniquities, then you can be forgiving to Kaps much minimal offenses, if that is what we can call them. His figure of speech and perception of the real world is what it is…..
Keep it 1000%
He isnt being blackballed.
He is a divisive guy who hasnt played in years.
He deserves a chance to work in the NFL
No drugs, no domestic violence, no high speed car wrecks.
God’s speed young man
NFL making so much money before Kap and after don’t matter if he plays or nah.
He was relegated to 3rd string!
He sucked pure and simple, that’s why he isn’t in the NFL anymore, taking a knee didn’t help!
If he was still an NFL caliber starter he would be playing!
Fact is he’s an a————-,grew up white privileged tries to act ghetto!
Got huge Nike money for being a poser.
There’s a lot more players in the NFL to look up to besides this woke corporate shill has been!
Craperdick trying again
If this trash gets his foot in the Chargers door my two feet are gone. 60 year Fan here!
Sounds like you dont have much time left anyway
