San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, despite his massive success over the past two seasons, continues to have his fair share of doubters. However, former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman made it known on Friday that he believes Purdy is the unquestioned leader for the 49ers going forward. Edelman took to the Up & Adams Show, hosted by NFL insider Kay Adams, to share his thoughts on the second-year signal-caller.

Julian Edelman: Believes in Brock Purdy with the 49ers
Edelman joined the Up & Adams Show on Friday, talking about 49ers gunslinger Brock Purdy, saying, “He’s making key throws when his team needs him to make key throws… He’s making big time, big boy throws.”
Edelman continued, “One of his strengths is his managing ability. To be able to be an operator in such a scheme-crazy offense shows you how intelligent he is and how he is able to process.”
Purdy has come under fire recently for earning MVP consideration despite his playstyle. The Iowa State product relies heavily on playmakers, including stars Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Aiyuk, to post monster numbers in 2023. Former MVP-winning quarterback and current free agent Cam Newton called Purdy a “game manager” on Thursday, a term considered a slight to most quarterbacks. However, Edelman believes the ability to manage a game remains a strength for an NFL signal-caller.
“He is an unbelievable game manager; that’s one of his strengths; over time, he is still a young football player. He is going to develop more and more skills off each experience,” said Edelman about Purdy’s ability to manage games.
Former New England Patriots tight end and future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski was also on the Up & Adams show and summarized Edelman’s point perfectly, saying, “Brock Purdy is such a great game manager that it makes him a game-changer.”

Additionally, the 49ers are 10-3, tied for the best record in the NFC.
