The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week Three matchup against the New York Giants. The 49ers have gotten off to a hot start in 2023. After beating down the Steelers 30-7 in Week One, the 49ers came from behind to win 30-23 in Week Two against the Los Angeles Rams.
San Francisco’s offense has been surprisingly good this season. Many had high expectations, however, no one knew if Brock Purdy would continue his 2022 magic. Through two games he has completed nearly 70% of his passes, thrown for 426 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. However, he will be without one of his top stars against the Giants in Week Three.
San Francisco 49ers Lose Brandon Aiyuk To Injury Prior To Matchup With The New York Giants
On “Thursday Night Football,” the San Francisco 49ers will be without their top receiver.
In advance of Thursday’s game, the Niners announced standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk would be inactive due to a shoulder injury. After missing practice on Monday and being a limited participant on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aiyuk was initially listed as questionable.
Aiyuk opened the season with eight catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last week, he hauled in three catches for 43 yards against the Los Angeles Rams.
After a third-down catch, Aiyuk landed awkwardly on his shoulder in the first quarter of Week 2. Aiyuk remained in the game after the catch, but did not appear in the fourth quarter.
Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings are the only Niners wide receivers to record targets this season besides Aiyuk. The Niners might decide to focus more on the ground game against the Giants, who are heavily favored. George Kittle could also see an increase in usage.
On BetMGM, the Niners are a 10.5-point favorite against the Giants, who are without Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley and All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas.
