Throughout the course of the entire NFL offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have been a source of major trade rumors. Most of them have had to do with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

As many already know, the 49ers and Aiyuk have been trying to work out a new long-term contract. Those talks have not gone well so far. Right now, it appears that the two sides are far apart, which has led to speculation about a potential trade.

Despite all of the rumors, the two sides still seem motivated to try to get a deal done together. Aiyuk has been a key factor in the 49ers’ success over the last couple of years. If they can get a new deal done, they’d rather go that route than moving on from him.

All of that being said, we now have a new update regarding the San Francisco 49ers’ contract discussions with Aiyuk.

San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk Situation Gets New Update

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowlers, the 49ers and Aiyuk have not been able to get close on a new contract. It seems that the standoff is still very much intact at this point in time.

“This one’s tricky because he was implicated in some trade talks around the draft. He wants a new contract; has one year left. I’m told the 49ers certainly are open to doing a deal, but talks have not progressed enough where things are close. And so, is he going to show up for their workouts? Hard to tell right now. The market is pretty set for him. Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit did that deal recently, about $28 million a year. So, that’s something for Aiyuk and the 49ers to work off of but I’m told they’re not quite there yet.”

Being able to keep Aiyuk would be a big step in the right direction for the San Francisco 49ers. Honestly, keeping him should be a priority even over keeping Deebo Samuel. Aiyuk has emerged as an elite wide receiver, especially due to his top-notch route-running.

During the 2023 season with the 49ers, Aiyuk ended up catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers show how big of an impact he already has and can have moving forward.

It will be interesting to see if the two sides can get closer together in the future. The San Francisco 49ers are clearly still motivated to get something done with their star wideout and Aiyuk would like to stay.

Assuming the two sides don’t insult each other, it seems likely that something will get done at some point for the two parties to stay together.
