Rutgers has been on a roll recently recruiting talent for the 2025 recruitment class. Three four-star commits in the last week, combined with the two that committed before that, headline the class which already has 24 commits. Very few teams so far have landed as many commits as the Knights have and those teams that have do not have the same amount of four stars as the Knights, excluding Notre Dame who is close to the Knights with 21 commits and has 12 four stars. When Rutgers is recruiting on the same level as Penn State, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma, you know it has been a great year for them.
On Saturday, June 15, Rutgers picked up another impressive commit, running back John Forster out of Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montville, New Jersey. Forster is ranked as a four-star and is ranked as the fifth-best player in New Jersey and fifth-best running back nationally by Rivals.com. He was supposed to make a visit to Wisconsin in the coming days but canceled his visit so he could break the news that he decided to be a Scarlet Knight. He held offers from other Big Ten programs such as Penn State and Maryland, even going on a visit to Illinois before deciding to stay home and play on the Banks.

Forster’s Recruitment: What does it Mean?
Not only is Forster’s commitment a big moment for the Knights because they are landing a star player, it is a big moment for the Knights because it is allowing them to keep up with the class of the NCAA in the recruitment rankings. Rutgers has a lot of commits and has been a lot more aggressive on the recruiting trail than a lot of their counterparts. His commitment, and the fact that it came from someone of his talent level, is keeping the Knights in the race to have a very impressive recruiting class in the Big Ten when it is all said and done.
Not only does Forster’s commitment help Rutgers on a national scale and help show the country that they can compete with the powerhouses to land commitments, but it also shows that they can recruit in New Jersey. Rutgers has struggled recently to keep a firm grip on their home state and despite this year’s recruiting success, it still does not prove that they have dominance over New Jersey recruiting. However, by landing three four stars out of New Jersey in the past week, Rutgers is showing that this narrative could very soon be flipped.
Which Other Recruits Will he Pair Well With?
What other recruits possibly helped land Forster’s commitment? Is there anyone in the class who can assist Forster and possibly could have been the reason why he decided to play for Rutgers? While there is no guarantee, having five highly-rated offensive line commits probably does not hurt your chances of having a top-talent running back. These highly rated offensive line recruits are N’Kye Wynn, Jae’lyn Matthews, Jayden Elijah, Chris Vigna, and Joshua Blackston.
While these five have varying ratings on different websites it is safe to say that their talent level is around that of a base four star because many sites rate them as either solid four stars or high three stars. Having a couple of high offensive line commits could be one of the reasons why Forster chose to play here, he will need some big guys up front to clear a path for him to run through. Either way, having these five committed to the program certainly did not hurt their chances of landing Forster. It will be interesting to see what kind of symbiotic relationship these top talents can create.
