Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has been in the headlines this week after it was reported that the team is benching him for the rest of the season. The veteran then tweeted out a post about the situation saying that he looks forward to where he will be next season, which has created a lot of trade speculation. The New England Patriots are currently the most likely team to make a move for Wilson according to many analysts, which would rock the NFL world.

New England Patriots Rumors
While it may look like a long shot for the Patriots to land Wilson, since they are likely to pursue a young quarterback in the upcoming draft, Wilson will very likely be the best available free agent in the offseason if New England does decide to go that route. Wilson put together a much better season in 2023 than the previous couple of years he has had, which has made his stock rise. Before being benched, the veteran amounted to 3,070 passing yards and 26 touchdowns with a top-10 completion percentage amongst all quarterbacks in 2023.
With other notable quarterbacks like Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield and Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins potentially hitting the market this offseason, Wilson will most likely be the best option in free agency because of the likelihood that he will be looking for other teams to play for after Denver “did him dirty.”
Russell Wilson A Cheap Option?
Wilson would also be a cheaper option for the Patriots if they decide to get a veteran under center. Since the veteran is already guaranteed $39 million from the Broncos next year, he would likely go to a team that appreciates him for less money. While he would not be a good quarterback to have for a long period, Wilson could bring culture to the locker room, and even take a rookie quarterback under his wing for a season to give him some knowledge.
The Patriots are 4-11 in 2023 as the year begins to come to an end with only two games left in the regular season. While the team has not performed well overall this season, they have shown some promise at the final stretch of games. Will New England seek a veteran like Wilson in the offseason, or will they rely on starting a rookie quarterback they pick up in the draft?

😒 just ridiculous! Patriots have no Idea what they have already. They have a QB that plays like Lamar Jackson. QB Nathan Rourke.
