Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has a month and some change to work a new deal with general manager Omar Khan before he hits free agency in March.
Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen entered 2024 on the Steelers roster knowing they had one season to prove their worth before free agency in March. Last week, Steelers owner Art Rooney II claimed he wanted Fields or Wilson to return in 2025, but didn’t think both would be on the roster in the fall.
There has been a lot of talk on Russell Wilson/Pittsburgh Steelers
Wilson has been linked to the Las Vegas Raiders in recent days after Pete Carroll accepted their head coaching job. The Raiders need a quarterback, Carroll was exploring the idea of hiring Wilson’s former offensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks, Darrell Bevel, to join Las Vegas’ staff with the same title.
Per Mark Long of the Associated Press, Wilson revealed his wish is to return to Pittsburgh in 2025.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers and we’ll see what happens with the rest,” Wilson said “I love it in Pittsburgh.”
Wilson praised Pete Carroll
Wilson praised Carroll’s coaching abilities but said he’s focused on the guys in the locker room that he led to the wild card in January.
“Pete’s going to be a great coach, obviously,” Wilson said. “He’s great at what he does. But I’m focused on the Steelers.”
Wilson, who made February’s Pro Bowl, thinks he has “a lot more ball” left in his 36-year-old body. His goal is to stay healthy this offseason.
Wilson missed the first six games of 2024 due to a calf injury.
