With little amount of cap space, the Los Angeles Chargers could look to trade or cut some of their star players of offence and defense. Players like Kalil Mack, Joey Bosa, Mike Williams, and Keenan Allen are at the top of the trade or cut list and here is what could be Next for Keenan Allen.
Keenan Allen
Allen had an insane start to his 2023 season, before missing a couple games to close out the season. In 13 games Allen put up over 1,200 years and seven touchdowns, debatably the best year of his career.
Keenan Allen is under contract through the 2025 season and set to become a free agent in 2026. In 2024 Allen will be 32 years old and his contract accounts for almost 22 million against the cap, therefore making a top candidate to be cut or traded.
Potential Landing Spots
Now the question is who wants the 32-year-old veteran, If Allen were to be traded it would be for little draft capitol, maybe a fifth-round pick, but here are some of the teams that could benefit from adding a key veteran receiver to help win the Superbowl.
Ravens
The Ravens fell just short last season losing to the Chiefs in the AFC championship, and a main part of that was that they did not have the offensive weapons to keep up with Patrick Mahomes.
Most likely Odell Beckham is going to leave in Free agency, which leaves a spot at WR2 were Allen could slot in a be a good compliment to Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews, and it would cost them almost nothing to get him.
Jets
With the Jets hoping to win the Superbowl in the next two years with Aaron Rodgers and having a large fall off at WR after Garret Wilson, Allen should be a great fit. It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers want to get Devante Adams from the Raiders, but it doesn’t look like the raiders want to trade him. Allen could slot into that veteran WR spot for the Jets in hope to win the Superbowl.
Cowboys
The cowboys 2023 season ended in flames after look like a Superbowl but losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers. Brandin Cooks was the wide receiver two in the cowboys explosive offense and did not produce the way that many people expected. The cowboys could replace a veteran WR with another in Keenan Allen.
These teams are all in their Superbowl window, and with an open spot at WR, Allen could be a crucial piece to add to try to get them over the hump to win the Superbowl.
