Raven’s linebacker Roquan Smith is staying in Baltimore for the long run. Roquan Smith and the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a 5-year $100 million extension Wednesday according to NFL Network. The deal makes Smith the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL.
Roquan Smith has recorded 103 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions this season.
What the deal means for Baltimore
Baltimore has been known for its strong defense. Keeping Smith helps the Ravens continue to dominate on defense. Baltimore currently has the 9th best defense in the NFL. Baltimore has allowed 324.3 yards per game and 18.5 points per game. Roquan Smith has helped take the Raven’s defense to another level. Roquan Smith is an athletic linebacker that has produced since entering the league in 2018. Ravens coaches, fans, and players will have confidence in their defense because of Smith’s play.
Baltimore has another talented linebacker named Patrick Queen. Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen can grow together and lead the Raven’s defense for multiple years. Extending Smith was a good move by the Ravens.
An Interesting Side Note
The Baltimore Ravens haven’t paid Quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson hasn’t practiced in a month due to a PCL injury. Jackson’s contract situation will be under the microscope over the offseason.
