The Pittsburgh Steelers made several trades before and during the 2024 campaign in hopes of improving the team’s chances of making a Super Bowl run.

Before the draft, the Steelers traded for Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears. Fields went 4-2 in Pittsburgh’s first six games before Russell Wilson replaced him after the veteran quarterback recovered from a calf injury. The Steelers are deciding if they want to re-sign Fields or Wilson for 2025.

During the season, Pittsburgh traded for two veterans, wide receiver Mike Williams and linebacker Preston Smith.

The moves helped the Steelers to reach the playoffs with a 10-7 record before losing 28-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in front of 70,546 fans at M&T Bank Stadium.

    The Steelers released Preston Smith

Pittsburgh sent the Packers a 2025 seventh-round pick for Smith. Smith appeared in eight games for the Steelers, recording 13 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. The 32-year-old pass rusher was made inactive for wild card matchup in January.

The Washington Redskins selected Smith in the second round of the 2015 draft. He joined the Packers in 2019.

The former first-team All-SEC standout at Mississippi State has appeared in 163 games and started 138. He’s recorded 275 tackles, 10 forced fumbles, and 70.5 sacks in his 10-year NFL career.
