“Go Chew on Bark;” Pittsburgh Steelers Legend Goes OFF on Aaron Rodgers for Holding Team Hostage

For what feels like months now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the only NFL team that has expressed any interest in signing Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season. The former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback is a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career following his release earlier this offseason.

But even though he is a four-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and future Pro Football Hall of Famer, very few teams had interest in signing him. The New York Giants appeared interested for a while, but moved on to Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston (and then drafted Jaxson Dart) when Rodgers took too long to give them an answer.

And while the Steelers hosted Rodgers, at his request, and even though he has worked out privately with DK Metcalf, the 10-time Pro Bowler has yet to make a decision on the 2025 season.

It has been difficult for fans to imagine that Rodgers would choose to end his NFL career because the team he was on, the Jets, decided they did not want him anymore. After all, he himself admitted that he was leaning towards retirement after the 2022 season, but chose to extend his career when the Packers made the decision to move on from him.

Additionally, Rodgers had told New York that he wanted to continue playing for them in 2025. However, they did not feel the same way.

However, despite the fact that OTA’s have already started, Rodgers has not signed the contract that Pittsburgh has extended him. Recently, he revealed that the reason for this is due to the fact that several people in his life are currently battling cancer, and helping them takes up a lot of his time and attention.

Some people, though, are not buying this explanation, and Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw is among them.

Bradshaw has long made his disdain for Rodgers known. He was heavily critical of the future Hall of Famer amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and has frequently knocked his unusual personal opinions.

Today, speaking on 103.7 “The Buzz” in Pittsburgh, Bradshaw stated that Rodgers is not worth the headache. “That’s a joke. That to me is just a joke,” Bradshaw said. “What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.”

He also blamed the Steelers themselves for Kenny Pickett not finding success with the organization: “I liked Kenny Pickett. I liked him at Pitt. I know him, I know what he’s like. When they got him to Pittsburgh, they didn’t protect him, they didn’t get him an offensive line. They wanted to run the football, but they didn’t have an offensive line that could protect and they didn’t have weapons. He had no wide receivers to speak of.

“Then they throw a kid in there for two years and you’ve got an offense that doesn’t fit and doesn’t work, and they can’t run because their offensive line’s not even good enough for a run blocking team. Now, they’re saying Kenny Pickett is a failure. He wasn’t a failure, the Steelers were a failure.”

That is some tough criticism from such a beloved figure in franchise history. It certainly seems like Pittsburgh is at a crossroads as to what direction the franchise will take this year.

The question remains, though, if Rodgers will be the one driving them. Bradshaw certainly hopes not.
