“Puts You Over the Hump;” Pittsburgh Steelers WR Says Signing Aaron Rodgers Made Team Super Bowl Contenders

After weeks of waiting on an answer, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He arrived in Pittsburgh over the weekend to sign a one-year deal worth $13.65 million (though he can make as much as $19.5 million if he meets certain performance and playing-time benchmarks).

The signing of Rodgers was met with mixed reactions from Steelers fans. Many were (and have been) upset due to how long it took him to make a decision. Others, however, were thrilled because they believe that the future Pro Football Hall of Famer gives them a better chance of winning games than Mason Rudolph.

One can add a current Steelers wide receiver to the list of those who are excited, as he feels that this signing has just made his team Super Bowl contenders.

Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Robert Woods Believes Aaron Rodgers Can Take Them to the Super Bowl

Another addition to the Steelers offense this offseason was wide receiver Robert Woods. The 12-year veteran spent the last two seasons with the Houston Texans, but previously played on a Los Angeles Rams team that won the Super Bowl.

And he believes that the addition of Rodgers is going to be just what Pittsburgh needed to put themselves in the Super Bowl conversation this year.

Woods told Jim Rome on Friday, “We end up trading George Pickens. We end up still signing Aaron Rodgers. And you still look at this roster and you say, Super Bowl contender just because of Aaron Rodgers. You have high caliber players on the offensive side, defensive side.

“It’s kind of hard to stop. When you get a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers, it extends the level of play. Of playoff contention, Super Bowl contention. Obviously, you feel like you’re a competitive team, but I feel like [signing Rodgers] puts you over the hump.”

The Steelers certainly hope that Woods’ analysis proves to be true. They only have Rodgers for one year and they need to prove to their fanbase that the wait was worth it.
