The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking like a real contender as the season has gone on, and they are now getting healthy right at the perfect time. The Steelers got a huge win against the division rival this past week, but they played the worst defensive game of their season in their win against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Steelers are getting some huge help back on the defensive side of the ball to get some revenge against the Cleveland Browns this week, who beat them just a couple of weeks ago.
Pittsburgh Steelers Getting Big Reinforcements
The Steelers have been dominant on the defensive side of the ball this year, as they almost always are. However, in recent weeks, their defense has slipped because of injury. On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin made a huge announcement that the team would be getting back one of their star players this week.
Alex Highsmith is officially back at practice, and the expectation is that he will play against the Browns this week on Sunday. Highsmith has only been able to play 6 games this year, and they have won every game he has played in. He has totaled so far this season 3.0 sacks, 19 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 10 QB hits.
The team is undefeated with him and 3-3 without him, as having both Highsmith and T.J. Watt together is one of the scariest combos on defense in the whole NFL. His return will bolster the entire defense, and just at the right time heading into the last part of the regular season. They are in a prime position to win their very tough division, and they have real hopes in the post-season with their top defense and Russell Wilson.
In Highsmith’s last two seasons, he has been one of the best pass rushers in the league opposite of Watt. He has totaled: 21.5 sacks, 120 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 38 QB hits.

The Steelers’ defense will be what carries them far in the post-season if they can, and they have arguably been the best in the entire NFL this season. However, the defense had their worst game of the year against the Bengals.
This was the first game in which the Steelers allowed over 27 points, and thankfully for them, their offense had the best game of the season, scoring 44 and demolishing the Bengals’ defense.
The Steelers now have a gauntlet of tough games to end their season, and if they can get some wins, they should be in prime position to win their very tough division. Highsmith will be a huge addition to this top defense as they gear up for a playoff push.
