Earlier today, it was reported that Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, once projected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, may have revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers will select him on Thursday in the first round.
During an interview with Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, Sanders said one of the quarterback-wide receiver combinations on his Mount Rushmore would be whichever quarterback is throwing to DK Metcalf and George Pickens this upcoming season. Many fans took this comment to mean that he knows he will be playing for the Steelers in 2025 (and that, perhaps, Aaron Rodgers will not).
Of course, fans will have to wait and see whether or not Sanders falls all the way down to Pittsburgh at pick 21. Even if he does not, though, there may be one thing wrong with his sentiment.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Appear to Be Shopping Wide Receiver George Pickens

While Sanders assumed that he (or whoever is the starting quarterback of the Steelers in 2025) would be throwing to Pickens, it is now being reported that Pittsburgh is making their former second round pick available for trade.
Fox Sports‘ Jordan Schultz recently wrote:
“George Pickens is one intriguing trade name to watch. Pittsburgh has taken and made calls on the talented WR, who’s now extension-eligible. After paying Metcalf, league sources are skeptical the Steelers will pay two receivers.
“‘It’s just not in their DNA to spend that much on two wideouts,’ the AFC GM said. ‘Pickens is more available than people think. Green Bay’s been serious, and they’re not the only ones.'”
As Schultz notes, the Steelers gave Metcalf a massive $132 million contract after they acquired him via trade. Pickens, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, is eligible for an extension, and many do not believe that Pittsburgh is willing to pay big money to two wide receivers.
So, instead of losing him for nothing in free agency after the season, the Steelers may be hoping to work out a trade during the 2025 NFL Draft.
George Picks Has Unfollowed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Social Media

While these are just rumors, it is easy to see that Pickens is not exactly thrilled with the Steelers organization. Many fans have posted evidence that the star wide receiver has unfollowed the team on social media:

This, of course, does not necessarily guarantee that he will be traded, but many have taken it to mean that a trade is imminent and that Pickens is unhappy with the Steelers for not wanting to pay him.
Last season, the Georgia product had 59 receptions for 900 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, Pickens had 63 receptions for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns while leading the NFL with 18.4 yards per reception.
