For months, many fans have wondered who the Pittsburgh Steelers will deploy as their starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. After seeing Russell Wilson and Justin Fields depart in free agency, many. including Steelers ownership, assumed that four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers would sign with the team.

But OTA’s have started and Rodgers, of course, has not signed the contract offer extended to him.

This has led to claims that Pittsburgh has bungled their quarterback search, though they did take Ohio State’s Will Howard in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Still, the only other players at the position on their roster are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.

President Donald Trump Predicts Mason Rudolph Will Be the Starting Quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (99) reaches over a lineman to reach Tennessee Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph (11) on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, during a game against the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

United States President Donald Trump was in Pittsburgh on Friday to speak to to United States Steel workers, and announced that he intends to double the tariffs on foreign steel from 25% to 50%. Multiple Steelers players were in attendance at the rally, including Rudolph.

Of the Pittsburgh quarterback, Trump said, “I happen to think a really good quarterback is a man named Mason Rudolph. I think he’s going to get a big shot. He’s tall, he’s handsome, got a great arm, and I have a feel he’s gonna be the guy.”

This is certainly a bold prediction from the President, as Rodgers, who as mentioned as not signed a contract, also has not ruled out playing for the Steelers in 2025.

Rudolph is making his return to Pittsburgh this upcoming season after having spent one year with the Tennessee Titans. He had played for the Steelers from 2019-2023 after being drafted by them in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

In 21 games (13 starts) for Pittsburgh, Rudolph has a 63.5% completion percentage for 3,085 yards, 19 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a passer rating of 86.9.

Last season with Tennessee (eight games, five starts), he had a 64.0% completion percentage for 1,530 yards, nine touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a passer rating of 80.1.

Rudolph is currently listed as the starter on Pittsburgh’s depth chart.
