As the Aaron Rodgers saga continues to define the offseason of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team is also dealing with the aftermath of a huge loss via a trade.
The Steelers decided to send wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, leaving Pittsburgh fans unable to witness what the duo of Pickens and newly acquired wideout DK Metcalf could do on the field.
Regardless of which quarterback will start for the Steelers in 2025, Metcalf and Pickens would have spelled lots of trouble for opposing defenses. Two uber-athletic and big downfield targets could change the game for Pittsburgh, which averaged only 195.3 passing yards per game in 2024, 26th in the league.
Heyward wants Pittsburgh Steelers fans to relax amid Pickens trade

Such a trade could turn off fans, but Pittsburgh veteran defensive tackle offered some wisdom to make sense out of the situation.
Via (Nick Shook of NFL.com):
“Was I surprised? Yeah,” Heyward said on the latest episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward. “But you know, the game is the game, and I know it benefits both teams. We get another third-round pick, they get a wide receiver to go along with CeeDee Lamb. Would I’ve liked to see George and D.K. play together? Yeah, but hopefully there’s something in the works.”
For now, the Steelers have the likes of Calvin Austin II, Robert Woods, Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller in their wide receiver room along with Metcalf.
The offseason is still long and the 2025 NFL season is still months away from kicking off, so Pittsburgh still has ample time to make splashy moves to inject more excitement into the team’s offense.
