The Pittsburgh Steelers have three quarterbacks on their roster as they begin their offseason programs. Of course, they entered the offseason with Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson on their roster after allowing Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to depart in free agency.
They added a third quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Will Howard of Ohio State in the sixth round.
Prior to the draft, Steelers general manager Omar Khan stated that the team intended on having four quarterbacks on their roster before the start of their offseason activities and training camp.
Of course, many presume that the fourth quarterback will be Aaron Rodgers. That is, if he decides to play in 2025.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Are Waiting on Aaron Rodgers to Make a Decision

When the New York Jets first acquired Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers following the 2022 NFL season, they believed that it would usher in a new competitive era in their franchise’s history.
It didn’t.
Rodgers tore his Achilles early in Week One of the 2023 NFL season and the Jets finished 7-10 for the second year in a row. A healthy Rodgers, along with his favorite wide receiver, Davante Adams (who acquired mid-season), struggled in 2024 while New York sputtered to a 5-12 record.
During the season, the Jets fired their head coach and general manager, and then replaced them with Aaron Glenn and Darren Moughey. The new leadership in New York decided quickly that they had no interest in moving forward with the four-time NFL MVP and released him.
Since his release, Rodgers has not seen many teams express interest in his services. Only the Steelers have made him an offer for 2025, but he has not signed with them (obviously) due to things going on in his personal life.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Have an Answer from Aaron Rodgers Soon

While the Steelers would have liked an answer from Rodgers before the NFL Draft, they also have stated, multiple times, that they are willing to be patient.
And, thankfully for fans, the wait will be over soon. According to team insider Mark Kaloby, Pittsburgh should get an answer from the future Pro Football Hall of Famer by May 27.
In Kaboly’s recent Steelers Mailbag on social media, he was asked when Rodgers would come “home.” Here was his answer:
“I assume you mean Pittsburgh when you say ‘home.’ I am glad you are finally listening to what I’ve said for two months now (I forgive you). I say May 22, but definitely before OTAs start on May 27.”
May 22 is three weeks away as of this writing.
