The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to place starting linebacker Nakobe Dean on injured reserve. Dean has dealt with a Lisfranc sprain this season.
He suffered the Lisfranc injury in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. Philadelphia placed him on injured reserve and missed the next four weeks. Philadelphia activated him from injured reserve in Week 6, and played the last four games. Dean reaggravated it in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Dean has 30 tackles, two tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one quarterback hit this season.
The Philadelphia Eagles second-year player played college ball at Georgia
Nakobe Dean committed to play college football for Georgia as a five-star recruit. He chose Georgia over Ole Miss and Alabama. Dean battled injuries in his freshman season but managed to play every game, recording 25 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
He was named by the National Football Foundation as a member of their “Team of Distinction” in 2019. This award recognizes high school scholar-athletes for their service to their community and their athletic and academic performance.
Dean had a solid sophomore season with 71 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award. This award recognizes the nation’s best linebacker.
Dean helped lead the Bulldogs to a national title in his junior season with 72 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two interceptions, five pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. He was named to the Coaches All-Sec 1st Team and won the Butkus Award. Dean declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Dean slid in the 2022 draft
Dean suffered a pectoral injury while bench-pressing during Georgia’s Pro Day on March 16. The initial belief was that he sprained his pectoral. Many reporters speculated that he tore his pectoral and needed surgery. Dean opted against surgery and slid in the draft because of that.
Another reason why he fell in the draft is because of his size. He is 5’11 and 231 pounds. The average size of his position is 6’2 and 240 pounds. Dean is three inches smaller and nine pounds lighter.
Philadelphia drafted Nakobe Dean in the 3rd round, 83rd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Dean didn’t start in his rookie season
Dean appeared in every game as a rookie, primarily on special teams, recording 13 tackles and one for a loss.
Dean was named the starter in his second season
T.J. Edwards left Philadelphia to sign with Chicago during the 2022 offseason. Dean was named the starter and got his first career start in Week 1 but suffered the injury.
Who will replace him?
Nicholas Morrow filled in for Dean when he went down with an injury. Morrow has 31 tackles, eight for loss, three sacks, five quarterback hits, one safety, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Philadelphia is in good hands with Morrow as their middle linebacker.
Hopefully, Dean can have a speedy recovery.
