The Philadelphia Eagles were able to escape against the New Orleans Saints with a 15-12 win on Sunday afternoon on the road. The Eagles are 2-1 on the season and there has been a lot of criticism of head coach Nick Sirianni.
When Philadelphia lost to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, fans were calling for Sirianni to be fired. Well, he is going to be under the microscope from week to week.
The Athletic’s Tim Graham Reveals Update On Job Security Of Philadelphia Eagles’ Head Coach Nick Sirianni
A few members of The Athletic staff answered some pivotal questions after the Week 3 games on Sunday. One of the questions that was mentioned is:
“Does Sunday’s win over the previously unbeaten Saints cool down Nick Sirianni’s seat, or does the uneven offense and fourth-down backfires keep the heat turned high?”
Tim Graham said about Sirianni’s job security after the Eagles’ Week 3 win:
“We know how it works in Philadelphia, where winning sometimes isn’t nearly enough. Sirianni got too cute, and that’s borderline unforgivable. One long Saquon Barkley run and Vic Fangio’s defense bailed out the head coach.
You have to cut Sirianni some slack with an already bruised roster that got beaten up some more on Sunday, losing All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson and leading receiver DeVonta Smith to head injuries. All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay also left the game late. But the fake Brotherly Shove gaffe right before halftime and being shut out for three quarters isn’t going to cut it in Philly, let alone the NFC East. Sirianni had better hope his luck lasts because he won’t last much longer if he keeps coaching cute.”
The injuries to key players are going to be a big deal for Philadelphia moving forward. Wide receiver A.J. Brown is already out with an injury. We will see how long Devonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Mekhi Becton, and others are out for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Week 4 Matchup Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face each other in Week 4. Both teams are 2-1 entering the season. Tampa Bay eliminated Philadelphia from the playoffs last season after beating them 32-9. Many people thought that head coach Nick Sirianni was going to be fired then, but he is still the Eagles coach for now.
If they win the division and make a run in the playoffs, Sirianni won’t be going anywhere. However, if they lose in the first round or miss the playoffs, he may not be back as the Philadelphia Eagles head coach for the 2025 season.
