Eagles’ Quarterback, Jalen Hurts, has become involved after hearing the gut-wrenching story of Jarvon Coles, a North Shore High School senior and football player who was killed last weekend.
According to authorities, Jarvon was killed in a drive-by shooting while attending a party with some friends from school in Humble, Texas. Jarvon was a star football player for the North Shore High School team and a stellar student with a 4.2 GPA. Jarvon was a top defensive recruit amongst his class and planned to attend Lamar University in the fall but was still in the process of visiting schools.
His death is tragic and has once again brought forward cries for help from the community and local government to end gun violence.
According to a tweet from Ian Rapaport, Hurts heard this story and decided to offer to pay the funeral expenses for the family.

What does Jalen Hurts have to do with this?
You may be saying, “Yes, this is horrible but what does Jalen Hurts have anything to do with it?” Many fans are asking the same question. Well, Hurts is an alum of Channelview High School, located in Channelview, Texas. This school is a long-time rival of North Shore High School, where Jarvon was currently finishing his senior year.
Jarvon Coles’ Funeral
The funeral was held Saturday, March 16th at Celebration of Life: The Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church in Humble, Texas. Hundreds of people from the community and family came to show their support for their loved one. The mayor of Houston declared March 16th to be Jarvon Coles’ day and this is only one example of the tremendous love and support Jarvon received from the community.
He was only a young boy who was looking forward to things like prom, graduation, and life after high school, but his life was tragically taken way too soon. According to multiple testaments of his character and stories about his life, his impact on the people around him is evident and they will carry on the memory of Jarvon Coles for years to come.
Jalen Hurts has not released a formal statement regarding his involvement in the funeral which is not surprising based on examples of his character in the past. He is not looking to be commended for doing something that he believes is just the right thing to do.
