The Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback, and new head coach Pete Carroll appears to be making a decision in the hopes he can land Russell Wilson.
Raiders general manager John Spytek is expected to be aggressive in attempting to trade with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick or the Cleveland Browns for the No. 2 pick with the intention of taking a quarterback for the long term.
Russell Wilson to the Las Vegas Raiders?
However, the Raiders are thinking short-term for 2025.
Wilson is set to enter free agency after signing a one-year deal on the vet minimum with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Following a season that saw Wilson return to the Pro Bowl, the Steelers would prefer to re-sign Wilson or Justin Fields for 2025.
At 36, Wilson is expected to have suitors in an offseason that will have plenty of quarterback-needy teams and not a lot of first-round talent at the signal caller position.
Pete Carroll is interviewing Wilson’s former OC
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Pete Carroll is interviewing Darrell Bevell for the offensive coordinator position in what is believed to be a bid to help land Wilson.
“Let’s just be real,” Rapoport said from the Senior Bowl. “We’re talking about this because of the potential for Russell Wilson to land in Las Vegas. We know he and Pete Carroll have remained in contact. We know the Steelers would like to re-sign him, but he wanted to be a Raider last year. The fact that his old offensive coordinator may land in Vegas as well kind of helps us put some of the pieces together and get a better understanding of this quarterback landscape.”

Bevell was the Seattle Seahawks coordinator from 2011-2017, helping Wilson and Carroll win Super Bowl XLVIII.
Darrell Bevell has experience coaching young QBs
Bevell was a four-year starting quarterback (1992-1995) for Wisconsin before starting his coaching career at Westmar. The native of Yuma, Arizona, got his start in coaching at the NFL in 2000 as an assistant quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers. At 55, Bevell has been an offensive coordinator for four NFL Teams:
- Minnesota Vikings (2006-2010)
- Seahawks
- Detroit Lions (2019-20)
- Jacksonville Jaguars (2021)
Bevell has served as an interim head coach for the Lions and Jaguars. He’s been the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Miami Dolphins since 2022. So he’s worked with several young quarterbacks, including Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa. (It’s worth noting if the Raiders decide to draft a quarterback.)
