The sixth seed, 13-2 Penn State Nittany Lions, play against the seventh seed, 13-1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, for the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, Thursday night. The winner of this game advances to the College Football National Championship, which will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, January 20. Penn State or Notre Dame will play against the winner of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl between the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Penn State Nittany Lions’ elite pass rusher exited last week with an injury
Abdul Carter suffered an apparent left arm/shoulder injury during the second quarter against the Boise State Broncos in the VRBO Fiesta Bowl. Carter went into the medical tent for further examination and played one snap on the ensuing possession before pulling himself out of the game. As a result, the elite 1st round prospect did not return for the remainder of their game.
Elite Penn State Nittany Lions 1st round prospect a game-time decision
During Wednesday’s joint press conference, head coach James Franklin told the media that Abdul Carter is doing everything he can to play against Notre Dame. As Franklin points out, Carter is officially a game-time decision for Thursday Night, and we should have a better idea regarding his availability between pre-game warmups and kickoff. Despite being labeled a game-time decision, Penn State anticipates him playing.
“We anticipate Abdul playing,” Franklin said. “He’s doing everything he possibly can to play. His approach has been awesome. He’s lived in the training room. But, it’ll be a game-time decision. We’ll see. Abdul’s approached this the right way. He wants to play. We are hopeful, and expecting Abdul to play. And, we’ll see how this plays out.”
