The Kansas City Chiefs escaped their Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns with a 21-7 win. The two-touchdown victory in front of a crowd of 67,983 at Huntington Bank Field in Ohio improved the Chiefs record to 13-1 on the year with three games left in the regular season.
Kansas City entered Week 15 with a two-game lead over the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC. With the Bills having a head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the Chiefs via a 30-21 win over Kansas City on Nov. 17, head coach Andy Reid kept his foot on the gas with under eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter and his team up 14 points.
Patrick Mahomes suffered an injury on Sunday
Patrick Mahomes would take a hit to his upper and lower body on a passing attempt that fell incomplete on a play on fourth down and three from the Cleveland 39-yard line. The pay resulted in a turnover on downs.
But the real problem for the Chiefs is the status of Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was seen limping off the field and would not return. He finished 19-of-38 passing for 159 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns.
The two-time NFL MVP was replaced by veteran backup quarterback Carson Wentz for the remainder of the contest.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a new concern for Mahomes
Per Mike Florio of NBC Sports, the Mahomes has a high ankle sprain and is “probably” week-to-week with the injury. The 29-year-old quarterback could have finished Sunday’s game if they needed him. However, Kansas City is worried the issue could be worse on Monday due to swelling.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Chiefs currently believed they dodged a bullet with Mahomes’s high-ankle sprain. However, the team is concerned about the extent of the swelling on Monday morning,” Florio wrote. “Mahomes could have continued playing today, we’re told, if the game had been tight. But the X-rays were negative, and the Chiefs hope the ankle won’t swell like a balloon tomorrow morning.”
A short week for Mahomes to heal
The Chiefs have a short week for Mahomes to heal up. Kansas City is set to play two more games in 11 days, something that Mahomes complained about earlier this week.
Kansas City will play the Houston Texans on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium. They’ll have another short turnaround when they play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day at Acrisure Stadium.
If Mahomes cannot start, the team will turn to Wentz. The No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft went 2-of-2 for 20 yards against the Browns on Sunday. Those are the first passing stats of the season for the 31-year-old.
