Patrick Mahomes has already accomplished more than any other NFL quarterback to start his career.
Mahomes is only 28, has been to the AFC Championship game in every season as a starter and after six full campaigns has the same Super Bowl rings as Brady had, but more appearances and more play-off wins – and he is well ahead in terms of touchdowns and passing yards.
His trajectory is heading into the stratosphere.
With his third championship at age 28, Mahomes is already in rare air. The Super Bowl LVIII MVP demurs when he is asked about comparisons to Tom Brady, because Brady — when he was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback — beat Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
It seemed inconceivable then that anybody would even have a chance of approaching Brady’s accomplishments. But just three years later, it is clear that Mahomes is the only quarterback who is of Brady’s caliber. They are very different in playing style, but very much the same when it comes to mastery of the game and willing teams to victory.
Patrick Mahomes credits Reid for letting him be himself, for not trying to force him to be anybody else. But Mahomes sounded strikingly like Brady on Sunday night. With his shoulder pads still on, the star signal-caller was already thinking about what is next. There’s the celebration Sunday night and then the parade in the coming week. And then there will be the return to work to get back to the Super Bowl again. Rice lives in Texas, the wideout noted, so he would probably hear a lot from Mahomes.
“Trying to go for that three-peat,” Mahomes said.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Proves He’s Most Clutch QB Of All Time With This Insane Stat
Everyone had the same feeling when the 49ers were forced to settle for three points on their opening drive of overtime.
We have seen it time and time again. Mahomes was going to do what Mahomes does.
From the moment the overtime drive began, the Kansas City Chiefs were thinking touchdown. Their defense was exhausted, but had managed to hold the San Francisco 49ers to a field goal to start the extra period. A Chiefs field goal would have continued the game, but that is not how champions think.
“Our mindset was, Go win it right now,” Patrick Mahomes said.
Matt Nagy, his offensive coordinator, was on the field moments after Mecole Hardman a caught the winning 3-yard touchdown pass.
“We knew having it in 15’s hands, we were going to have a chance to win it,” Nagy said. “We have been saying all year long, we’ve been calloused for these moments. What a fitting end to us having the ball on offense after the ups and downs this year, to have the ball to win it and we did it.”
On Tuesday night, one particular stat began to go viral as it’s absolutely insane and shows just how clutch the Chiefs QB has been.

Since 2001, there have been 125 drives in the NFL postseason where it was at least the fourth quarter, there was under a minute left to play, and the team on offense trailed by seven points or fewer at the start. These are your standard clutch moments for a football team, the do-or-die drives that win and lose critical games.
Out of those 125 drives, only 40 percent of them saw the team on offense pull off the magic trick and get the points they needed. Some quarterbacks are pretty good at it, such as Tom Brady, who went 5-for-11 (46 percent) or Drew Brees, who went 3-for-6 (50 percent). Only Patrick Mahomes, though, is 7-for-7, or perfect, in those dire situations.
That says it all. He may have a way to go to catch Brady’s rings, but Mahomes has already proven to be the most clutch NFL QB of all time.
