It’s not a secret that Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is, among many other things, a big baseball fan. His dad, Pat Mahomes, used to pitch in MLB with several teams, including the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox.
And with the 2025 NFL season still months away and the Chiefs’ training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph not starting until July, the three-time Super Bowl champion has plenty of time to pay attention to what’s happening in Major League Baseball.
Reds prospect catches Patrick Mahomes’ attention

On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds gave the ball to top prospect Chase Burns for his first-ever start in the big leagues. Burns was sensational, to say the least, in the early goings of the contest against the New York Yankees, who couldn’t solve the young hurler in the first two innings.
Burns impressively struck out six New York batters through his first two frames. Mahomes saw that on social media and reposted a video of Burns walking off the mound after taking care of business in the second inning.

Burns would eventually falter, as he allowed three earned runs on six hits by the end of his five-inning stint on the mound, but he also had eight strikeouts.
Overall, he had a splendid MLB debut that will be talked about for days in the Reds’ realm, and getting a nod from Mahomes only made it all sweeter for the 22-year-old right-hander. Cincinnati also got the 5-4 win off Gavin Lux’s walkoff RBI single in the 11th inning.
