The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2025 season ready to prove to the league that they’re ready to compete for a championship.  Well, that championship will mean a little more this season.  One of Green Bay’s former coaches has passed away.

    Fans are heartbroken.

According to our very own Jordan Sigler:

A former Green Bay Packers coach who had many legendary stops around the college football and NFL world died at 79 following a battle with leukemia, per multiple reports.

Per John Hartsock of the Altoona Mirror, Wayne “Buddy” Geis died on Wednesday.

“Geis, an Altoona native and 2010 inductee into the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame whose home was in Neptune Beach, Fla., passed away at the age of 79 on Wednesday morning after battling leukemia,” Hartsock wrote.

“Before embarking on his fabulous coaching odyssey, Geis was a football and baseball standout at Altoona Area High School, graduating from there in 1965.”

Geis was an assistant college football coach for Tulane and Kansas before a brief stint with the Jacksonville Bulls in the USFL. Hr returned to coach quarterbacks at Memphis State in 1986.

He made the leap to the NFL with the Green Bay Packers in 1988, coaching wide receivers from 1988-1991, working with Hall of Fame receiver Sterling Sharpe.

Geis had assistant coaching stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, and Georgia Tech. He helped develop Jim Harbaugh with the Colts, Troy Aikman in Dallas, and Calvin Johnson at Georgia Tech.

Fans on social media remembered the legendary coach.

“Do you have one for @30for30 Wayne “Buddy” Geis Coached Sterling Sharpe, MarvinHarrison, Michael Irvin, Calvin Johnson #nfl Call somebody @FieldYates he should be more known,” suggested a fan.

“Condolences to the friends and family of Buddy Geis, an excellent football mind,” posted another.

“RIP Coach! Buddy Geis was a great man. Never played for him but became his friend over the years. Always enjoyed our talks about ball. Prayers for his family & friends as they deal with this devastating loss. Say Hello to Heaven Coach! You’ll be missed,” remembered a poster.

    “Prayers for “Buddy.”,” wrote another.
