The Green Bay Packers made a move at running back on Tuesday to shore up the position with star running back Aaron Jones still dealing with nagging injury issues. Kenyan Drake was signed to the practice squad to replace James Robinson.
Drake, an NFL veteran, should have a chance to step in and find an immediate role in Week 14 if Jones is unable to play.
AJ Dillon has been the workhorse running back for the Packers when Jones has been unable to play. He has done a solid job, but Green Bay has wanted to have a second running back to use consistently. They have not been able to find that back, but Drake has big-time potential to fill that role.
Kenyan Drake Reveals First Thoughts On The Packers
Shortly after signing with the Packers, Drake wasted no time talking about his new team. His quote came from NFL insider Josina Anderson.
“I could feel the energy around the building today. It was legendary, and you can feel the legacy and bright future they have. I’m excited to get to work to help them take that next step towards the ultimate goal.”
Those words do not sound like they’re coming from a player who doesn’t expect to be a part of something in Green Bay. Granted, it’s just a practice squad deal, but with rumblings that Jones will miss Week 14 against the Giants, Drake will likely be elevated to the 53-man roster.
Drake has only played in two games so far this season, both coming with the Baltimore Ravens. In those appearances, he carried the football just once for no yards. Last year in 12 games with the Ravens, Drake racked up 482 yards and four touchdowns on 109 carries.
At 29 years of age, Drake is simply looking for a chance to show that he can make an impact. He very well may have found that opportunity with the Packers.
Make sure to tune in to see the Packers take on the Giants in Week 14 on Monday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. EST on ESPN. Green Bay will look to win their fourth straight game and put themselves even further into the thick of the tight playoff race in the NFC.
