The Green Bay Packers made the difficult decision to move on from Jaire Alexander this week. While the move saved the team more than $17M in cap space, the team lost an absolute leader on defense. When it came down to it, his injury history combined with his inconsistent play at times was too much for the team.
However, there is a new name in the CB room that will surprise many fans.
Breaking: Packers Convert Starting WR To CB After Release Of Jaire Alexander

According to Packers insider Tom Silverstein:
#Packers have moved WR Bo Melton to CB. GM Brian Gutekunst said they love his play on special teams and coaches were open to seeing him on defense. His brother Max is a starting CB for the #Cardinals.

Bo Melton was re-signed by the Green Bay Packers with the exclusive rights tender for the 2025 season, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media:
The move was expected. An exclusive rights free agent — a player with an expiring contract and two or fewer accrued seasons — cannot negotiate with other teams, and the one-year, cost-effective tender immediately retains the player.
Melton will make $1,030,00 on the tender in 2025. He will be an exclusive rights free agent once again in 2026 even if he accrues another season in 2025, giving the Packers exclusive control over his rights for at least two more seasons.
Melton, a 2023 draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, has played in 22 games for the Packers over the last two seasons, catching 24 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown. He had only eight catches on 17 targets for 91 yards in 2024, but he was stuck behind Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks at wide receiver. Melton has also rushed 11 times for 75 yards, including eight rushing attempts (on gadget plays) for 54 yards last season.

Here is a look at Melton’s career stats:
