The Washington Commanders are coming off a cinderella season that saw them reach the NFC Championship game with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels under center.  The playoff run surprised the entire league and put Washington back on the map.

However, there was some brutal news coming out of their camp on Tuesday.

Washington’s mandatory minicamp this week will be skipped by Commanders’ WR Terry McLaurin:

McLaurin hasn’t been happy with the progress of contract talks as he enters the last year of his deal.

In the last year of his deal at $19.65 million, Terry McLaurin is set to take on fines of over $100,000 to send a message to the Commanders about his contract.

Teams have the discretion to waive those if they wish.

McLaurin was set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023 when he signed a three-year, $71 million extension. Now that he has shown the Commanders what he can do, he wants to get paid for his services.

It remains to be seen if the Commanders will give him what he wants.

Terry McLaurin continues to stay away from the team in hopes of a new deal, and some think the Washington Commanders may choose to simply trade him.

McLaurin, the former Ohio State product, has dealt with plenty of poor quarterback play over his career since 2019.

Everything changed for him in 2024 when the franchise drafted Jayden Daniels.

McLaurin recorded a career-high 13 touchdowns last season while helping Washington reach the conference title game for the first time in three decades.

Now, he wants a new deal.

Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox thinks the Commanders could trade Terry McLaurin to the Tennessee Titans if they cannot reach an agreement.

“It’s easy to see how McLaurin could fit into Tennessee’s offense and how he could help Ward during the early stages of his career. With $30.7 million in cap space, The Titans have the cap space needed to make it happen,” Knox wrote. “And while Ward will bring excitement to Tennessee this season, the Titans probably aren’t jumping into the playoff conversation.

“They’re likely to again pick high in the draft order, which would make a second-round offer enticing.”
