Ohio State’s season has been easy so far, but they will face tough tests in the upcoming weeks against Iowa and Oregon.
Oregon looks to be the team that will rival Ohio State for the best Big Ten team, so next week’s game will be crucial if the Buckeyes want to win the conference and get a Top-Four seed in the college football playoff.
Ohio State Is Predicted To Be A Top Four Seed
Even though Ohio State could lose next week and ruin their chance to head to the Big Ten title, one media outlet still thinks they are going to win the conference no matter what, and Stan Becton from NCAA.com posted an article on who he thinks will get the automatic bids in the college football playoffs and Ohio State is in there.
Ohio State hasn’t been challenged in a game yet this year. While that is likely to change with future road trips to Oregon and Penn State, I’ll need to see the most talented roster in college football get pushed before I say they’ll lose.
The Buckeyes also get Indiana and Michigan to close the season at home, but Indiana may have a letdown after playing the Wolverines the week prior — and Ohio State has a legitimate quarterback; Michigan does not.
Oregon and Penn State are my top contenders to meet the Buckeyes in the conference title game, but I think Ohio State’s top-three run defense in the FBS will put all of the pressure on Drew Allar, something the Nittany Lions would like to avoid. The Ducks have the best shot at knocking off the Buckeyes, but Oregon’s early season struggles create doubt in their ability to knock off an elite opponent.
It will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes finish their season. If they do beat Oregon, there is a great chance they will head to the Big Ten title game because their only hard test the rest of the way will be on the road at Penn State.
Ohio State will be in the playoffs no matter what if things don’t go way downhill, but being a Top Four seed and not playing the first round is what the team wants.
