The Ohio State Buckeyes won the National Championship this season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With Ryan Day being the first head coach to win it all for this program since Urban Meyer, Day lost some key coordinators already this offseason.

The Buckeyes needed to find a new defensive coordinator. One person who was out of football for a year was former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia. Ohio State’s defense rose to the occasion in the playoffs.

The Buckeyes hired Matt Patricia as the new defensive coordinator, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. He used to also be the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. Patricia last coached for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 as a defensive assistant.

This is one of the most fascinating hires of the offseason. It will be interesting to see how well Matt Patricia will be as the defensive coordinator for the 2025 season for Ohio State.

Horrible choice. Ohio State is better than this.

There were also a lot of Michigan Wolverines fans who trolled the Ohio State Buckeyes fanbase about this hire. Michigan has won its last four meetings against Ohio State. The Wolverines and the Buckeyes have also been the last two teams to win it all in college football.

The fact that the Wolverines fanbase is laughing at the Buckeyes fanbase for this Patricia hire is not a good look for the football program. However, Ohio State is taking a risk with its defensive coordinator position with this hire and if it doesn’t do well this year, many of the fans know where the blame will go.
