It’s not fair to say that the college football bowl season doesn’t matter to players now that there is a 12-team playoff system.
There were some late-game emotions during the end of a close contest on Saturday night when an ACC program became the ninth conference team to lose in the postseason. Following Dec. 28, the ACC is 1-9 in postseason play, with the lone winner being Syracuse.
NC State Football was upset in a college football bowl game
North Carolina State had reasons to feel shame after their performance in the Go Bowling Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. The Wolfpack were outplayed by East Carolina in front of a crowd of 23,981.
The Pirates enjoyed a 13-6 halftime advantage on NC State. They would extend their lead to 20-7 before the start of the fourth quarter.
The Wolfpack would rally to score 14 points in the final 15 minutes, but an 86-yard touchdown run by ECU’s Rahjai Harris with 1:33 remaining would give the Pirates all the points they needed in a 26-21 win.
A fight broke out after ECU football iced the game
NC State quarterback CJ Bailey was intercepted by defensive back Dontavius Nash with 44 seconds left on the clock. The Wolfpack would call a timeout after a six-yard run by Harris.
During the timeout, multiple fights broke out, including one that injured an official. Blood could be seen running down the left side of the official’s face.

Following the brawl, ECU took a knee and ran out the clock to claim their victory over NC State. East Carolina improved o 8-5 with the win. The Wolfpack fell to 6-7.
NC State had no reason to lose to a program that fired its head coach, Mike Houston, in October. Per ESPN BET, the Wolfpack were 7.5-point favorites to beat ECU.
