The most outstanding college football coach of all time, Nick Saban, left Alabama this past offseason to enjoy more time on the golf course, and since he decided to leave the game, the SEC had a down season.
The SEC is known as the greatest conference in college football, and it has been the last 20 years, but the 2024 season was nothing like what we have witnessed the last two decades, and it showed up during conference play and the postseason.
All the top teams in the SEC this season had troubles, and every one had two or more losses; even though Georgia won the conference like they usually do, they were not the superteam they have been in years past and were just knocked out of the second round of the college football playoffs to Notre Dame.
Tennessee made the playoffs and got destroyed against Ohio State; Alabama and South Carolina failed to reach the postseason and lost to two mediocre Big Ten teams in their bowl games.
Texas is the only conference team left, and it hasn’t looked great in its first two playoff games against Clemson and Arizona State. These two teams wouldn’t be in the playoffs if they didn’t win their conference, but Texas can change the narrative with a big win against the Buckeyes this week.
Even though the Crimson Tide had issues on the field this season, their fans love that the SEC had a down season because Saban is no longer coaching.
Nick Saban Changed The SEC
Alabama fans took to social media to express their feelings on why the conference had such a down season, and here are some of their thoughts.

The SEC is like 8-6 in bowl games with a twam in the final 4 of the playoff. Even if Texas loses this game, how is that different from 2014 or 2023?
