NFL legend Tom Brady decided to give the young new quarterbacks some advice on a recent podcast appearance. It is a very different era in football for young athletes, as many players are making huge pay days in college. In addition, social media has made players much more focused on their personal brand as well.
Brady revealed the reasons that he was able to play for so long and have such success and he wants to see some of the young quarterbacks do the same. He highlights that Houston Texans young star C.J. Stroud has some of the things Brady thinks are crucial for a quarterback in the NFL.
Tom Brady Makes Great Points In Podcast
Brady went on “The Pivot” podcast with Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder to talk football and what made Brady successful for so long. The kley piece of advice Brady had for young quarterbacks was most importantly to be the best teammate you can be. Being the best teammate attracts other amazing teammates which is crucial for winning in football.
CJ [Stroud] is a good example. I really appreciated where he came from and all the expectations that he had and what he’s done and put together last year with a lot of humility. I could see — like when I watch quarterbacks, the first thing I watch is, does he endear himself to his teammates? What are the things that he’s saying? What are the things that he’s doing to endear himself to his teammates? So that he does feel like one of the guys.
For Brady, it was crucial that he develop a bond with the starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe, so that Brady could learn everything he could about the NFL. Brady added that there is “nothing better than being a great teammate.”
If [a QB] wants to separate himself from the rest of the team, you’re not gonna go play 20 years. … So, you have to talk the right way, hang the right way, celebrate the right way, lose the right way. I think that’s the bonding. … That’s the gift in sports. There’s nothing better than being a great teammate. If somebody said, ‘You’re an unbelievable teammate,’ you’d be like, ‘Thank you,’ because they know you so intimately. You can’t fool people in a locker room. You can’t [expletive] your way through a football season.

In Brady’s long and legendary career, it is truly incredible that not one single player that played with him has come out saying anything bad about the man. On the contrary, there have been arch rivals like James Harrison and Darelle Revis that joined the team and only had the best things to say about Brady.
Brady may be on to something about this piece of advice. We will see which young quarterbacks take this message to heart going forward.
